What if I need to cancel class?

Do I need a membership to take clinics and lessons?

The Court Reserve app is where you would cancel a class you have signed up for. Cancel more than 24 hours in advance of your session for a refund to your Court Reserve account. Within 24 hours, you can:

  • Send someone in your place of the appropriate level
  • Contact Director of Adult Tennis Matt Previdi at mattbalboatennis@gmail.com so he can attempt to get someone in off the waitlist

No membership is required to participate in our lessons and clinics. HJK Ventures and Balboa Tennis Club are separate entities, and our programs and clinics are the same price regardless of membership at the club.

Why are the programs so hard to get into? How do I know if I got in?

You will receive a notification email, but the best way to check is through the app.

Junior Program:

  • Our program includes a 12-week session that allows each player to get 2 make-up classes per session. If your child cannot attend a class, the parent needs to communicate with the Director or Coach of the group 24 hours in advance.
  • The class will be reimbursed to your Court Reserve account and can be used towards another day (make-up class has to be according to your child’s level) or you can use that money for future sessions.
  • Make-up class cannot be used towards a private lesson, but you can use the value of the group class and pay the extra amount for a private class.
  • IMPORTANT: You cannot withdraw your child without letting the Director or coaches know.

How do I book the ball machine?

  • You may book the ball machine through the Court Reserve app between the hours of 10:30 AM – 2:00 PM daily. For booking outside of those times, you will need to reach out to Director Hiromi Sasano directly at 619-318-6002.

How to operate the ball machine

  • The ball machines are in the large green equipment shed behind court 4.
  • Bring the ball machine out of the shed and place it on the court assigned to your reservation.
  • Plug the ball machine into the outlets located near the players benches for your court.
  • Power on the ball machine.
  • Adjust the ball speed, ball height level and ball oscillation
  • Use only the pink balls. Do not mix with the green balls please.
  • Once done, pick up all the balls, place them in the ball machine and put the ball machine back in the equipment shed.
